New ISSOTL Members

Welcome New Members!

For those of you who have recently joined the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL), we welcome you to our organization.  For those of you who recently renewed your membership in the Society, we thank you for your continued support.

One of the benefits of being a Society member is our ISSOTL Listserv.  The purpose of this list is to communicate with you about a variety of topics.  We use this list to send you links to and calls for ISSOTL’s newsletter The International Commons, to alert you to new benefits for members, to bring you information about upcoming conferences, and more.  The list is restricted to postings from ISSOTL Communications Coordinator Nancy Chick and ISSOTL Secretary Lisa Kornetsky. We understand how much email you get, so we will limit our postings so as not to inundate your mailbox.

Please make sure that we are on your “safe senders” list in your email account.  As spam and junk-email filters become more effective in catching unwanted emails, they also become more aggressive with email listservs, which means that some ISSOTL members aren’t getting their emails about the Society.  If you have colleagues or friends who are also ISSOTL members, help them receive ISSOTL communications by telling them about this problem, just in case our emails have already been captured by their filters.

As you can see, http://www.issotl.org/ is the address for our website. This will be the primary place to look for updated information on the Society, conferences, and related events.   We hope that you will visit the site on a regular basis!

As new issues of The International Commons are posted, you will receive an email letting you know that one has been published.  To see previous issues, simply go to
the website, and click “Newsletter.”  In addition to reading and enjoying this and previous issues, we encourage you to think about ways that you can contribute to the newsletter as well; it is a great venue for dialogue and communication between members.

Member Benefits

If you are a new member, check out the benefits your ISSOTL membership brings you.  A full list of benefits is available on our website’s “Join/Renew” page.  These include discounts to a variety of journals and publications.

Stay tuned for information about the ISSOTL Digest, a blog which will serve as a helpful communication mechanism, allowing members to post SoTL-related material and reach a broad audience, receive and distribute information in a timely manner, establish relationships, and dialogue about issues that are important to you.  This will be a pilot, but we are excited about it.  As with other blogs, all readers can simply check the site when they wish, or they can subscribe to a Digest newsfeed and receive notification of all new postings through the newsreader (or newsfeed-enabled email application) of their choice.

We hope that you will stay connected to news about the Society by remaining on our listserv.  If, however, you wish to unsubscribe, just send an email with the word "unsubscribe" in either the subject or body of the email to issotlmembership-approval@maillist.uwsa.edu.  If you would like to change the email address where you receive these mailings, contact the ISSOTL Secretary directly at lkornetsky@uwsa.edu, and she will make those changes.

The Society meets for its fifth conference in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on October 16-19, 2008.
